Police called at the offices of nine luxury brands. Chanel says it cut the contract back in May
An Italian investigation into worker exploitation at subcontractors. None of the nine companies is a subject of the case.
Chanel has said it is cooperating fully with the Italian authorities in a labour exploitation investigation involving subcontractors in the luxury supply chain.
The day before, Italian police visited the headquarters of nine luxury brands, including Chanel, Moncler and Brunello Cucinelli, requesting documents on corporate governance and supply chain controls. It forms part of an investigation into the alleged exploitation of workers at subcontractors.
The French house said it had cut ties with the subcontractor concerned several weeks ago: it instructed its packaging supplier to end the relationship two days after receiving an alert on 18 May. Termination proceedings began immediately. “The information that has appeared in the media was already known to Chanel,” the company said in a statement.
According to a court document that has been reviewed, none of the nine companies is a subject of the investigation, and prosecutors did not seek to place any of them under external administration.
Chanel added that it applies the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility across its supply chain, and that suppliers and subcontractors undergo regular assessments, audits and checks. The sites concerned, the company said, had been through an extended audit and additional verification measures.
