Dior showed couture three days after dressing Taylor Swift for her wedding

Jonathan Anderson came to Dior’s couture show on the wave of the commission of the year: the house dressed Taylor Swift and her husband Travis Kelce for their wedding in New York, which took place on Friday. Photographs of the outfits had not been published by the time of the show — which only warmed the room further.

The show took place in the gardens of the Rodin Museum, and France was covered that day by another heatwave: past thirty degrees, with a forecast of more to come. Guests — the actor Josh O’Connor, the model Alexa Chung, the director Baz Luhrmann — fanned themselves with the black bamboo fans Dior had sent out in advance along with the invitations.

Models walked out onto a black mirrored runway, between large ferns. Several looks were built entirely from embroidered silk flowers — Anderson is continuing his theme of nature and gardens.

The season’s main collaboration is with the American sculptor Lynda Benglis. Four bags were made with her, and the folds that are a signature of her work passed into blouses in silk chiffon, trousers and jackets. Across the front of one dress, giant fans of blue tulle unfurled. Anderson, who ran Loewe before Dior, works with artists regularly — he showed Benglis’s sculptures back in 2023 for the Spanish house.

The classic Bar jacket is reworked twice: in fern-coloured tweed with frayed fringing, and in grey houndstooth wool draped into a large bow. Another jacket is embroidered all over in white silk thread. The coats are fluid and roomy, textured, with fringing or dramatic pleating and bows. A palette of grey, white and silver is cut with bright green and blue.

The bags inspired by Benglis came out huge and sculptural, in metallic pleating. The shoes are finished with floral details or pleated metallic bows. The jewellery, according to the show notes, was made by craftsmen from Jaipur in India.
